QuickFix or a new photo credit? A decision table for 6 misses

Six common virtual staging misses, sorted: which ones QuickFix corrects for free and which need a new photo credit in QuickStage, with the note to type for each.

By QuickStage Team7 min read

Use QuickFix when the room type, style and source photo were right and only the furniture came out wrong, such as a sofa too big for the room or a chair in a doorway. Spend a new photo credit when the miss traces back to something set at upload (the room type, the style or the photo itself) or when the photo is an exterior, which QuickFix doesn't cover. A QuickFix never uses a photo credit: plans include 7, 20, 50 or 100 a month, and every new visitor gets one free.

The table below sorts six misses we'd call common into one column or the other. The sections after it explain each call and give you the note to type. Prices are as of October 2026.

The decision table

The miss QuickFix or new photo Why
Furniture at the wrong scale for the room QuickFix It's a furnishing correction, and your room type and style were right
A piece blocking a doorway or walkway QuickFix Moving or removing one piece is exactly what QuickFix is for
You picked the wrong style New photo QuickFix keeps the style you chose at upload
You picked the wrong room type New photo QuickFix keeps the room type too
The source photo is soft or low resolution New photo, from a better original Every QuickFix starts again from the same upload
An exterior (Curb Appeal or Twilight) missed New photo QuickFix works on staged interior rooms only

The upload-or-staging test

If you remember one thing from this page, make it this question: did the miss happen at upload, or during staging?

A QuickFix re-stages the photo from the original you uploaded, with the room type and style you already picked, and applies your note on top. So anything that was decided before staging started rides along unchanged. If the mistake lives in one of those decisions, a QuickFix will reproduce it faithfully and you'll have spent a re-do for nothing.

Staging misses are different. The furniture is the part QuickStage chooses, so the furniture is the part a QuickFix can change.

Miss 1: the furniture is the wrong scale

Call: QuickFix.

The common version is a sectional that eats a 12-foot living room, or a king bed pushed against both side walls of a small bedroom. An oversized piece makes a room read smaller than it is, which works against the listing, so this is worth fixing.

Name the piece, say what size you want, and say what to keep. For example: "Replace the sectional with a smaller two-seat sofa against the back wall. Keep the rug and the coffee table." One change per note makes the result easier to check.

Because the photo is produced again rather than patched, check the whole frame afterwards, the walls and windows as well as the sofa. Our own help text says to compare the new version with the original photo, since other details can change too.

Miss 2: a piece blocks a doorway or walkway

Call: QuickFix.

A plant parked in front of a door, a dresser across a hallway opening, barstools on the wrong side of an island. QuickStage is built to keep doors and walkways clear, but when a result still misses, this is the textbook QuickFix. "Move the plant so it isn't blocking the doorway" is the example we use on our own pricing cards.

Say where the piece is and where it should go: "Move the floor plant out of the doorway on the right and into the corner by the window. Keep everything else as it is." If you'd rather lose the piece entirely, say "remove" instead of "move".

Miss 3: you picked the wrong style

Call: new photo.

You meant Scandinavian and clicked Farmhouse, or the listing is a downtown loft and Traditional looks wrong next to the exposed duct. QuickFix carries over the style from the original job, so typing "make it Scandinavian" into the note asks it to fight its own instructions.

Upload the photo again, pick the style you wanted and spend one credit. The new result comes back in about 30 seconds, with the walls, floors, windows and paint colors kept as photographed, the way QuickStage is built to work. That's $1 on pay-as-you-go, or one credit from your plan, where photos run as low as $0.13 each on monthly plans and $0.11 each on the annual Agency plan.

There's a small upside here. A QuickFix replaces the earlier version on your results page, while a fresh upload keeps both. If you're torn between two styles, two staged versions side by side is the better way to decide.

Miss 4: you picked the wrong room type

Call: new photo.

This one usually happens in a batch: ten photos, one dropdown left on Bedroom, and a dining room comes back with a bed in it. The room type steers what furniture goes in, and QuickFix keeps it, so the fix is a new upload with the right room type.

One case worth knowing: a porch or screened porch has its own room type, and it's treated as an interior room, so QuickFix works on it like any other furnished room. Only the Exterior room type, used for the front or back of the house, sits outside QuickFix.

Before you stage a batch, read the room type next to each photo once. It takes seconds and saves a credit per mistake.

Miss 5: the source photo is soft or low resolution

Call: new photo, but from a better original.

If the staged result looks soft, check the photo you uploaded before you blame the staging. The QuickStage uploader warns when a photo is under 1,024 pixels on its longest side: it will still stage, but it may look soft. Photos at 1,024 pixels or larger look sharpest.

A QuickFix can't help with this. It starts from the same uploaded file every time, so the softness comes back with it. Re-staging the same small file with a new credit won't help either. What works:

  1. Find the full-size original, not a copy pulled from a listing site or a text message, which are often compressed.
  2. If the room was shot dark or tilted, reshoot it level and bright if you can.
  3. Upload that file and spend the credit on it.

The same logic covers any problem baked into the source: a bad crop, a blown-out window, a lens so wide the walls bend. Fix the photo first, then stage it.

Miss 6: an exterior photo missed

Call: new photo.

QuickFix is available for staged interior rooms only. An exterior uses the Exterior room type with one of two treatments, Curb Appeal or Twilight, and if you try a QuickFix on one, you'll get a message saying the result was not changed and no QuickFix was used. Nothing is taken from your allowance.

So for an exterior, your options are a fresh upload or a better source photo. An exterior costs the same single credit as an interior, with no surcharge. If you picked Twilight and wanted Curb Appeal, that's Miss 3 in a different form: the treatment is set at upload, so restage with the other one. If the house itself was shot in flat light or at an awkward angle, reshoot before you spend the credit.

What if you have no QuickFixes left?

The badge on your results page shows how many you have. At zero, clicking QuickFix shows a message that you've used your allowance for the period and that it resets with your next billing cycle.

At that point the table collapses to one column. You can wait for the reset, or you can stage the photo again as a new upload for one credit. Pay-as-you-go credits buy staged photos only and don't add QuickFixes, so if you stage only on the $1 option, the one free QuickFix every new visitor gets is the only re-do you'll have. If re-dos matter to how you work, compare what each QuickStage plan includes before you buy.

A few things neither route is for. Don't use a correction or a restage to cover a crack, a stain or water damage. Staging adds movable furniture and decor; it should never hide something a buyer would want to know about. And label the final photo as virtually staged wherever it's published. California requires a disclosure plus access to the unaltered original (Business and Professions Code §10140.8), and many MLSs have their own rule. This isn't legal advice; check your MLS and broker.

Bottom line

Ask where the miss came from. Wrong furniture size or a piece in the way is a staging miss, and QuickFix fixes it without touching your photo credits. Wrong style, wrong room type, a soft source photo or any exterior result means a new upload, so fix the choice or the file first, then spend the credit through the QuickStage upload form.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use QuickFix or stage the photo again?

Use QuickFix when the room type, style and source photo were right and only the furniture is off, like a sofa that's too big or a chair in a doorway. Stage the photo again with a new credit when you picked the wrong style or room type, when the source photo is the problem, or when the photo is an exterior.

Can QuickFix change the style or room type of a staged photo?

No. A QuickFix re-stages the same uploaded photo with the room type and style you already picked. To change either one, upload the photo again and stage it as a new photo, which uses one credit.

Can I use QuickFix on an exterior photo?

No. QuickFix works on staged interior rooms only, so Curb Appeal and Twilight results can't be QuickFixed. If you try, nothing is changed and no QuickFix is used. Restage the exterior as a new photo, which costs the same single credit as an interior.

Will QuickFix sharpen a blurry or low-resolution staged photo?

No. Every QuickFix starts from the same uploaded file, so a soft source photo stays soft. Upload a full-size original instead; the QuickStage uploader warns when a photo is under 1,024 pixels on its longest side.

How many QuickFix re-dos do I get?

Plans include 7 a month on Basic, 20 on Pro, 50 on Studio and 100 on Agency, and the allowance resets with your billing cycle. Every new visitor gets one free QuickFix. Pay-as-you-go credits don't add QuickFixes.
